Linkt Fees Queensland Explained: Current Charges and How They Build Up

A toll charge and a Linkt fee are not the same thing.

The toll is the amount charged for using the road. Linkt fees can be added when a vehicle travels without a detected tag, when a toll invoice is issued, when the invoice remains unpaid or when certain account services are used.

That is how a relatively small toll can turn into a much larger amount.

This guide explains the main Linkt fees applying in Queensland, what causes them and what you can do before the charges escalate.

Figures were checked on 23 September 2026. Linkt generally adjusts Queensland toll prices and fees on 1 July each year.

Current Linkt Fees in Queensland

The following charges are listed by Linkt for Queensland.

Video Matching Fee: $0.55

A $0.55 video matching fee may apply when:

  • Your vehicle travels through a toll point without a tag

  • Your tag is not detected

  • Your vehicle is attached to a tagless account or pass

The fee covers the process of matching the vehicle’s number plate to an account or pass.

On most Queensland toll roads, the fee applies at each toll point. On AirportlinkM7, video matching fees are calculated per trip.

This charge is separate from the toll itself.

Some vehicles that are unsuitable for a tag may be treated differently in limited circumstances. Linkt recommends contacting them if this applies to your vehicle.

Toll Invoice Fee: $10.81

Linkt calls this a User Administration Charge.

The $10.81 fee applies when Linkt issues a toll invoice. The invoice will generally include:

  • The unpaid toll amount

  • The toll invoice fee

  • Any other applicable charges

A toll invoice may be issued when a vehicle travels without a valid payment arrangement and the trip is not resolved within the allowed time.

Demand Notice Fee: $30.28

If a toll invoice is not dealt with by its due date, Linkt may issue a Demand Notice.

The current Demand Notice administration fee is $30.28.

This is added to the outstanding tolls and other applicable charges.

A Demand Notice is more serious than an ordinary toll invoice. Failing to comply with it may lead to the matter being referred for enforcement and an infringement notice being issued.

Requested Paper Statement Fee: $2.75

A $2.75 fee may apply for each paper statement you specifically request.

This option is only available for eligible Linkt accounts and selected passes where a name and address have been supplied.

Electronic statements can help avoid this charge.

Direct Debit Return Payment Fee: $1.10

A $1.10 fee may apply when a direct debit payment is returned.

Your bank may also charge its own dishonour or failed-payment fee.

A failed payment can also leave the Linkt account overdrawn or suspended. If you continue travelling while the account is not active, toll invoices and additional fees may follow.

Tag Non-Return Fee: $15.00

A $15 fee may apply for each tag that is not returned when a Linkt account is closed.

It may also apply when a tag is lost or stolen.

Contact Linkt promptly if a tag goes missing. This also reduces the risk of the tag being used by someone else.

Overdue Interest Charge: 1.25%

Linkt lists an overdue interest charge of 1.25%.

It is calculated and charged on an overdue balance 31 days after the payment due date.

Payment Card Surcharges

Linkt lists the following indicative card surcharges:

  • Mastercard credit: 1.05%

  • Mastercard debit or prepaid: 0.56%

  • Visa credit: 0.61%

  • Visa debit or prepaid: 0.35%

  • American Express: 2.15%

These rates may change and depend on the payment provider.

Fees Currently Listed as $0

Linkt currently lists these Queensland fees as $0:

  • Retail Service Fee

  • Manual Top-up Fee

Always check the current fee schedule before making a payment because fees can change.

How a Queensland Toll Charge Can Escalate

The usual progression is:

1. The toll road is used

The vehicle passes through a toll point and the ordinary toll becomes payable.

2. A video matching fee may be added

If no valid tag is detected, the number plate may be matched to an account or pass.

3. A toll invoice is issued

If the trip is not covered by a valid payment arrangement, Linkt may issue a toll invoice with a $10.81 administration fee.

4. A Demand Notice is issued

If the toll invoice remains unresolved, a Demand Notice may follow with a $30.28 administration fee.

5. The matter may progress to an infringement

Failure to comply with a Demand Notice can potentially lead to a Queensland infringement notice.

At that point, the matter is no longer simply an unpaid Linkt account. Government enforcement processes may apply and an unpaid infringement can ultimately be registered with the State Penalties Enforcement Registry.

Why Did I Receive a Linkt Fee When I Have an Account?

Having a Linkt account does not guarantee that every trip will be charged correctly.

You may still receive fees if:

  • Your vehicle was not added to the account

  • Your number plate details were incorrect

  • Your tag was not detected

  • Your tag was installed incorrectly

  • Your account had insufficient funds

  • An automatic payment failed

  • Your account was suspended

  • You travelled in a different vehicle

  • Your vehicle registration details changed

  • Your account or pass had expired

Check the vehicle registration, account balance, payment method and travel history as soon as you notice a problem.

How to Reduce or Avoid Linkt Fees

Keep your vehicle details current

Make sure the correct number plate, registration state and vehicle class are recorded on your account.

Update the account when you:

  • Buy or sell a vehicle

  • Change number plates

  • Use a temporary vehicle

  • Hire or borrow a vehicle

  • Move to another state

Check that your tag is working

A working tag generally avoids the video matching fee.

If the tag does not beep, appears damaged or repeatedly fails to register, contact Linkt.

Keep your account funded

Check that:

  • Your nominated card has not expired

  • Your bank details are correct

  • Automatic payments are working

  • Your account has enough credit

  • Low-balance notifications are enabled

Act quickly after travelling without an account or pass

Linkt allows some eligible past travel to be added when opening an account or purchasing an appropriate payment product.

The available backdating period depends on the account or pass. Check the current product conditions directly with Linkt.

Do not wait for an invoice if you already know that you used a toll road without a valid payment arrangement.

Do not ignore a toll invoice

Check the following information:

  • Number plate

  • State of registration

  • Date and time of travel

  • Toll road

  • Vehicle class

  • Toll amount

  • Administration fees

  • Payment due date

If something appears wrong, contact Linkt before the due date and keep a record of the complaint.

Can Linkt Fees Be Waived?

A fee is not automatically removed because you dispute it or believe it is unfair.

However, Linkt may review a fee where:

  • The fee was charged incorrectly

  • Your account or vehicle details were correct

  • A tag failure was outside your control

  • The notice relates to a vehicle you did not own or drive

  • You are experiencing genuine financial hardship

  • Other exceptional circumstances apply

Ask Linkt to explain each charge separately. Request the response in writing and keep copies of invoices, account statements and correspondence.

What If I Cannot Afford the Linkt Bill?

Contact Linkt Assist as early as possible.

Depending on your circumstances, Linkt Assist may consider:

  • Extra time to pay

  • A manageable payment arrangement

  • Review of fees and charges

  • Other financial-hardship support

A review does not guarantee that fees will be removed, but acting early is usually better than allowing the matter to progress.

Linkt Assist can be contacted on 1300 767 865.

How to Dispute a Linkt Fee

Start by contacting Linkt and clearly identify:

  • The invoice or notice number

  • The fee you dispute

  • Why you believe it is incorrect

  • The outcome you are requesting

  • Any documents supporting your position

Ask for a complaint reference number.

If Linkt does not resolve the complaint to your satisfaction, Queensland customers may be able to contact the Tolling Customer Ombudsman. The Ombudsman provides independent dispute resolution for customers of Linkt Brisbane.

Do not allow a due date to pass simply because a complaint is underway. Ask Linkt in writing what will happen to the notice while the complaint is being reviewed.

Linkt Fee or Government Fine?

These are different stages.

A Linkt toll invoice or Demand Notice generally contains tolls and private administration charges.

A Queensland infringement notice is issued under the government enforcement system after an alleged failure to comply with a Demand Notice.

An infringement can carry separate consequences, review options and deadlines.
