Rewards membership value calculator

By Robin Hood Tech · Checked 1 November 2026

Will the savings you actually use cover the fee? Put your own numbers in and compare a full year.

We're using a simple budget calculation, not predicting a provider's payouts. Enter Australian dollars. Count only savings on purchases you would make anyway, compared with the best realistic alternative price. Exclude potential prize winnings, unused perks and the face value of points you cannot redeem.

Extra costs can include additional delivery fees, travel and spending triggered by offers. Use 0 where none apply.

How the calculation works

Annual net = monthly potential savings × 12 × expected-use percentage − annual membership fees − monthly extra costs × 12.

Monthly fees are multiplied by 12. Annual fees are counted once. Expected use reduces the advertised or potential savings to the part you think you'll actually realise. A positive result is an estimated saving; a negative result is an estimated cost.

A worked example

A $10 monthly fee costs $120 a year. If $18 of potential monthly savings is only 75% usable, the usable benefit is $162 a year. Another $2 a month in extra costs removes $24. The estimated annual net saving is $18. These are invented example inputs, not a claim about any membership.

Choose honest inputs

  • Fees: include the price after any introductory offer. If your first year has different rates, calculate its actual total and choose Annual.
  • Savings: use receipts or benefits you can realistically redeem. Don't double-count a discount and cashback unless the terms allow both.
  • Expected use: reduce this when offers expire, shops aren't convenient or you regularly forget to activate them. For an estimate based only on savings already achieved, use 100%.
  • Extra costs: include spending caused by the membership. Count the full unnecessary purchase, not just its delivery fee.

What this tool leaves out

We assume 12 months at unchanged inputs. The tool doesn't model tax, interest, borrowing costs, changing prices, cancellation charges or detailed monthly caps. Add known fees to your annual fee input. It doesn't value entertainment, convenience or prize chances, and it doesn't verify a program's terms.

The inputs are calculated in your browser and aren't sent by this tool. Existing site analytics may still operate. No email address or registration is needed.

Try a cautious scenario

Set expected use to 50%, increase extra costs and compare the result. Then set potential savings to zero to see the annual cost if you never use a benefit. A small positive estimate can disappear quickly when assumptions change.
