How Do I Complain About Linkt and Which Ombudsman Handles It?

Updated October 2026

If Linkt has not fixed a toll charge, account problem or complaint, you may be able to take it to an independent tolling ombudsman. The correct ombudsman depends on where the disputed travel happened.

The short answer

• NSW toll-road complaints: NSW Tollway Ombudsman.

• Linkt Brisbane complaints: Tolling Customer Ombudsman.

• Linkt Melbourne complaints: Tolling Customer Ombudsman.

Since 1 January 2026, the Tolling Customer Ombudsman no longer handles Linkt Sydney complaints. NSW now has its own scheme.

Complain to Linkt first

Both ombudsman schemes generally expect you to give the toll operator or service provider a fair chance to resolve the problem before escalating it.

Contact Linkt and clearly say that you are making a complaint. Ask for a complaint or reference number. Keep a copy of what you submitted and record the date.

Your complaint should identify:

• the toll road and travel date

• the vehicle registration number

• the invoice, notice, demand or account number

• the charge or decision you dispute

• what you want Linkt to do

• the documents that support your position

A vague message saying a bill is unfair is harder to investigate. State exactly what happened and what outcome would resolve it.

NSW: use the NSW Tollway Ombudsman

The NSW Tollway Ombudsman is a free and independent service for unresolved complaints about participating NSW toll-road operators and service providers.

It can consider complaints about toll charges, fees, accounts and related tolling services after you have tried to resolve the issue directly.

The scheme says it may also consider a complaint where there has been an unreasonable delay in receiving a decision, generally more than 60 business days.

Queensland and Victoria: use the Tolling Customer Ombudsman

The Tolling Customer Ombudsman handles unresolved complaints involving Linkt Brisbane and Linkt Melbourne. The service is free to consumers and is intended to provide independent and impartial dispute resolution.

The Tolling Customer Ombudsman is not the Queensland Ombudsman. Linkt Brisbane is operated through a private toll-road business, so sending the complaint to the general Queensland Ombudsman may put you on the wrong path.

What evidence should you include?

Collect as much of this as you can:

• toll invoices, notices and demand notices

• screenshots of the account or app

• bank statements or payment receipts

• vehicle registration records

• sale or transfer documents if you no longer owned the vehicle

• dates, times and reference numbers from calls

• copies of emails and letters

• a short timeline in date order

Do not send passwords, card PINs or login codes.

What can an ombudsman look at?

A tolling ombudsman may consider problems such as disputed trips, incorrect fees, account administration, payment allocation, customer-service failures and unresolved complaints.

An ombudsman is not a court and does not replace the formal review process printed on a government infringement notice. If you have received a penalty infringement notice, court document or SPER enforcement order, check its deadline immediately. Do not assume an ombudsman complaint pauses that deadline.

Before escalating

Use this checklist:

• complain to Linkt first

• keep the complaint reference number

• state the outcome you want

• collect the supporting records

• identify the state where the toll travel occurred

• check any legal or payment deadline separately
