Cross City Tunnel Toll 2026

From 1 October 2026, the Cross City Tunnel costs $7.46 for a Class A main-tunnel journey.
The shorter westbound trip using the Sir John Young Crescent exit costs $3.52.
The tunnel is tolled in both directions and does not use peak pricing.

The toll applies in both directions.
There is no separate peak or off-peak price.
Where Does the Cross City Tunnel Go?
The Cross City Tunnel is a 2.1-kilometre twin tunnel linking Darling Harbour and the western side of the CBD with Rushcutters Bay and the eastern suburbs.
It bypasses 18 sets of traffic lights.
The tunnel clearance is 4.4 metres.

A connected trip using the Eastern Distributor can create a separate toll.
Why Is the Sir John Young Crescent Toll Cheaper?
The lower toll applies to the shorter westbound journey exiting at Sir John Young Crescent.
A full journey through the main tunnel uses the higher price.
Choose the correct entry and exit in the official calculator rather than assuming every Cross City Tunnel trip costs the full maximum.
Cross City Tunnel Vehicle Classes
Class A generally covers vehicles no more than 2.8 metres high and no more than 12.5 metres long.
Cars and motorcycles are normally Class A.
Class B covers vehicles exceeding either measurement.
Trailers, caravans, boats, roof loads and raised roofs count toward the measured dimensions.
How to Pay the Cross City Tunnel Toll
The tunnel is cashless.
You can pay using:
A tag account
A tagless account
A Sydney Pass
Another accepted Australian toll account
If you travelled without an active payment arrangement, act immediately and preferably within 48 hours.
A number-plate matching fee can still apply.
What Happens If You Miss the Toll?
An unpaid trip can progress from a reminder to a Toll Payment Demand.
If it remains unpaid, debt recovery or enforcement action can follow.
Do not wait for the demand if you already know you used the tunnel without a valid payment arrangement.
Announced Cross City Tunnel Toll Reduction
A 20% Cross City Tunnel toll reduction has been announced in connection with the Western Harbour Tunnel opening.
The safest wording is that the reduction is linked to the harbour tunnel opening, currently expected around late 2028.
Do not convert the announced 20% reduction into a future dollar amount yet.
The underlying toll can continue to rise before the reduction begins.
