When does the extra morning peak toll apply?

The $6.82 charge applies when a car travels inbound towards the city and uses the City West exits at Footscray Road, Wurundjeri Way or Dynon Road between 7 am and 9 am on a weekday.

It does not apply on Victorian public holidays. It also does not apply to those exits outside the stated morning period or when travelling outbound towards the west.

For example, a car charged $4.26 for the tunnel and $6.82 for a qualifying inbound peak exit would pay $11.08 for those two toll points. Check your actual route before assuming both charges apply.

Is the West Gate Bridge tolled?

No. Cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles can still use the West Gate Bridge and West Gate Freeway without paying a toll for those roads.

The nearby West Gate Tunnel is tolled. The West Gate Freeway has a separate tolling arrangement for heavy vehicles, which is why it is important to check the vehicle class rather than treating every vehicle the same.

What does a regular commute cost?

A driver charged the $4.26 tunnel toll once on the way to work and once on the way home would pay $8.52 a day for those two crossings. Across five workdays a week for 48 working weeks, that comes to $2,044.80.

That example excludes the inbound morning peak charge, any other toll points, account fees and days when the driver takes a different route. It shows why a charge that looks small on one trip can become a substantial yearly cost.

Motorcycle, commercial vehicle and truck tolls

For the same October to December 2026 period, the West Gate Tunnel toll point is $2.13 for a motorcycle and $6.81 for a light commercial vehicle. A qualifying inbound morning peak exit adds $3.41 for a motorcycle or $10.92 for a light commercial vehicle.

Heavy commercial vehicles are charged differently. Linkt’s schedule lists a West Gate Freeway heavy vehicle toll of $20.62 by day or $13.75 by night, with higher rates for long heavy vehicles. Truck operators should check the official schedule for their vehicle class and complete route.

How do I pay the West Gate Tunnel toll?

The West Gate Tunnel uses electronic tolling. You need an active toll account or a suitable pass. A working interstate toll account can generally cover Victorian toll travel if your vehicle is correctly listed on the account.
